Notes | The MaxOptix StreamIT is an AIT-2 RAID consisting of five SONY SDX-500C AIT-2 SCSI drives. The StreamIT will look like a stand alone SONY SDX-500C drive to the OS and Retrospect. All five tapes have to be the same format. For example, the set must have 5 AIT-1 tapes or 5 AIT-2 tapes. The user cannot mix 3 AIT-2 tapes in the same set with 2 AIT-1 tapes. The SDX-500 is not compatible with 8mm cartridges manufactured by Exabyte or Ecrix Corporation. **** The MaxOptix StreamIT subsystem must be on its own SCSI bus. In other words, this device needs to be the only device connected to SCSI card "A." Other SCSI devices can be connected to SCSI card "B." The MaxOptix StreamIT allows storage operations to continue uninterupted when a single power supply, fan, tape drive, or tape fails. A second power supply provides continuous power to the storage subsystem if the first supply fails. The power supply and the fan module may be replaced without shutting down the storage substem. Use of RAID 1 mirroring or RAID 3 data striping with parity enables the storage subsystem to complete a backup or restore operation even though one of the tape drives or one of the tapes in the data set fails. |
