“We have been able to restore data for several engineers over the years that would have been lost had it not been backed up. In one instance the 7 year old data from a Mac was restored to a PC and with a little conversion enabled the engineer to use it. Just as he did 7 years earlier.“
Dale Windsor, Honeywell Technology Solutions at NASA
“We had an important server that died. We were able to install the OS on a new system and then restore the entire server onto that. It only took a few hours to have everything back exactly as it had been before.“
Mike Bernhardt, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
“It just works!“
David Mastel, Phoenix Analysis & Design Technologies, Inc.
“Retrospect has practically saved our business.“
BH Renner, RenneR & Co Chartered Management Accountants
“Easy to implement and configure. Low cost. Excellent support.“
Jon Lyne, City of Calgary
Complete Data Protection
Retrospect provides complete protection with backup, archive, and duplicate features built in.
Twelve cloud storage providers supported including Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Backblaze, Wasabi, Dropbox, DreamHost, Dunkel, Numergy, and Aruba.
Smart Incremental Backups
There’s no need to tell Retrospect to do a full backup; it intelligently backs up only the unique files that it doesn’t already have.
Because it saves a complete point-in-time file listing of every backup, Retrospect always restores exactly the files that belong on a volume; no unwanted files get restored and later require cleanup.
Retrospect's new High-level Dashboard provides a high-level view of the entire state of your backup environment. See at a glance what backups are running, how much you've backed up in the last week per day, which computers aren't protected, the state of your storage, and more.
Boot media can be created for nearly every Windows system protected by Retrospect to provide fast recovery from a non-bootable state. Now supports the latest hardware and OSes including Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, and 64-bit machines and drivers. Retrospect for Windows employs native Mac OS backup client software for comprehensive backups that include all the proper metadata and system components to provide complete disaster recovery restores of protected Macs.
Heterogeneous networks are protected using Retrospect’s native client software, ensuring perfect backups regardless of operating system.
Fit any Storage Budget
Grooming allows customers stay protected with a long-term backup retention policy to ensure recovery from yesterday, last week, last month, or five years ago, using storage that fits their budget.
Shorter Backup and Restore Windows
Protect your data faster than ever with 5x faster grooming, 3x faster catalog rebuilds, and 20% faster backup and restores with 6x faster file matching, compared to the previous version.
Cloud Storage Providers
Need to protect laptops that come and go from the network? Retrospect’s Proactive Backup feature watches for computers and automatically backs them up when they connect to the network.
Advanced Data Deduplication
Retrospect maximizes storage usage by only copying unique files—even across multiple computers—to the backup media.
Retrospect can make use of multiple hard disk destinations, whether grouped together or used independently; connected directly via USB, FireWire, or eSATA; or when networked using Ethernet, iSCSI, or Fibre Channel. Retrospect supports most types of magnetic media for backup, including hard disk drives, network-attached disk, cloud storage, flash media, and every major tape format.
Backup, copy, archive, and restore operations in Retrospect can be scheduled to meet any agenda.
Retrospect will optionally encrypt communications between network clients and the backup server using strong AES-256 encryption to prevent network snooping of private information. Now supports strong encryption for Windows and Mac clients. Retrospect provides multiple encryption options for safeguarding backup data against unwanted access, including government standard AES-256 encryption.
To include or skip specific files, folders, and volumes, or to back up only specific data to cloud storage, Retrospect includes both built-in and user-definable selectors that filter data based on a multitude of conditions, including file names, dates, and types.
Power Conservation Options
To reduce the overall power demands for backups, Retrospect awakens sleeping/stand-by mode computers to back them up and then allows them to return to their low-power state.
Improved email reporting
Retrospect includes a wealth of data about your backups. The operations log is now included to give you complete insight into each backup's progress. Filter emails based on errors, warnings, or other keywords to hone in on issues as soon as they happen.
Easy Setup for Backup Strategies
Retrospect can transfer specific or all backups between Backup Set destinations, making it trivial to back up nightly to network-attached storage and then transfer just the most recent nightly backups to a portable hard disk for safe, offsite storage. Retrospect can stage backups to disk before transferring them to tape, ensuring that the fastest possible throughput is achieved at each stage. Disk-based backups can also be copied to tape for safe, offsite storage or archiving.
Open File Backup Unlimited
Protects open files on NTFS-formatted volumes on Windows servers, desktops, and laptops. This add-on makes it possible to protect line-of-business applications—such as accounting, CRM, and proprietary database systems—while they’re running, even those with data files spread across multiple volumes. Retrospect’s Open File Backup Unlimited add-on extends to all Windows systems protected by your Retrospect host server, including end-user desktops and laptops.

Retrospect’s Dissimilar Hardware Restore Unlimited add-on extends to all Windows systems protected by your Retrospect host server, including end-user desktops and laptops.
