title: Error -625 - Out of Memory created_at: 2012.02.13 updated_at: 2015.03.17 category: Troubleshooting platforms: Windows, Mac ---

Retrospect support recommends that you add more RAM to your machine if you get an error -625 while scanning a volume with a large number of files and folders or if you run multiple executions.

If your edition of Retrospect is capable of running multiple simultaneous backups, we require the following memory configurations:

32-bit editions of Retrospect

  • 2 execution units requires 3 GB of RAM

  • 4 execution units requires 3 GB of RAM

64-bit editions of Retrospect

  • Each execution unit requires 1GB of RAM

  • 4 execution units requires 4 GB of RAM

  • 8 execution units requires 8 GB of RAM

  • 16 execution units requires 16 GB of RAM

Further Tips

If maximizing the amount of RAM does not solve your issue, break down the size of the large source volume by creating subvolumes. Backup each of the subvolumes separately.

Retrospect 7 (32 bit edition) will also cache data to the default Windows temp folder. If the hard disk containing the Windows temp folder is low on disk space, memory errors may occur. Make sure you have between 10 and 15GB of free disk space on the C: drive for each execution unit you are running.

Try moving the default temp directory to a different hard disk if possible.
