Retrospect Data Protection Suite Now Supports the Latest Systems and Includes Additional Features

Sunnyvale, Calif.— September 5, 2017—Retrospect®, Inc., makers of award-winning Retrospect Backup & Recovery software, today announced updates to its data protection suite for the latest environments with the release of Retrospect 12.5 for Windows and Retrospect 14.5 for Mac and include database protection, improved email reporting, and further cloud certifications. In addition, Retrospect Virtual now supports granular file-level restore.

System Update Certifications

Thousands of homes and businesses across the world depend on Retrospect to protect their essential data. With the latest release of Retrospect for Windows and Retrospect for Mac, customers are now protected on the latest system updates:

  • Apple macOS High Sierra (10.13), Apple File System (APFS)
  • Microsoft Windows Fall Creators Update
  • Ubuntu Linux 15, 16, 17
  • RHEL 7 Update 3
  • CentOS Linux 7 Update 3
  • Suse Linux 11.4, 12.2
  • Debian Linux 8, 9

In cases where the official system updates haven't been released, certification was performed with the latest preview.

“Retrospect continues to be in the forefront of system support with these latest updates. I'm happy to see immediate support for APFS on Macs, as it's such a big platform switch for Apple,” said Abrahim Rizk, CEO at Intelligent Technology, Inc.

Retrospect for Windows and Retrospect for Mac

Along with system update certifications, Retrospect for Windows and Retrospect for Mac now include the following new features:

  • Database Protection – Pre-built script hooks are available to enable IT administrators to quiesce MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB databases for an application-consistent backup of their critical database servers.
  • Daily Backup Report Email – The "Backup Report" is one of Retrospect's most popular features, and now it's available as a daily email. Customers can keep tabs on every computer in their environment without leaving their inbox.
  • Cloud Storage with Wasabi – Wasabi is a cloud storage provider focused on single-tier hot storage, very low costs at $0.0039/GB a month, and extremely fast speeds, and it's now certified for seamless integration with Retrospect for Windows and Retrospect for Mac.

In addition, Retrospect for Windows and Retrospect for Mac both include a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. The full list is available at retrospect.com.

“The backup report is a great tool to monitor all of the computers in my environment, so having it delivered to my inbox every day is excellent,” said Richard Blades, Managing Director at RGB Solutions Ltd.

Retrospect Virtual

Retrospect Virtual now supports file-level granular restore for virtual machines. In the past, IT administrators needed to restore an entire virtual machine to extract a single file from it. With RunDirect, this VM restore was fast, but now with Granular Restore, administrators can skip the VM restore altogether.

“These product updates ensure our customers are completely protected on the latest systems with additional features like database protection, daily backup report emails, and VM file-level restore,” said Jean-Christian Dumas, Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “With Retrospect, our customers know that their business's digital assets are safe from accidents, hardware failure, theft, disaster, and ransomware.”

Availability

Retrospect 12.5 for Windows and Retrospect 14.5 for Mac are free for customers that have Retrospect 12.x for Windows and Retrospect 14.x for Mac and available immediately. The latest version of Retrospect Virtual is also available immediately as a free update to customers. Retrospect is available in 6 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Japanese.
