Exchange Server with Retrospect 7.5 and later

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 in two-node Windows Server 2003 Cluster environment can be backed up and restored.

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 in two-node Windows Server 2000 Cluster environment can be backed up and restored.

Retrospect supports backing up and restoring an Exchange server in a cluster environment with the following limitations:

  • The cluster can only have two nodes. You can only back up one Exchange resource group that is shared between the two nodes. Nodes must be backed up and restored as Retrospect Clients. The Retrospect backup computer cannot be one of the nodes in the cluster.

  • You can only back up Exchange data on the node that owns the Exchange resource group. Likewise, you can only restore Exchange data to the node that owns the Exchange resource group.

  • Retrospect does not back up and restore cluster configuration information. In a disaster recovery scenario, you will have to manually recreate the cluster before restoring the Exchange data with Retrospect.

  • If you want to make sure your Exchange data gets backed up regardless of which node currently owns the Exchange resource group, you must have a separate Exchange license (and a client license) for each node. If you only want to back up your Exchange data when a specific node owns the Exchange resource group, you only need an Exchange license (and a client license) for that node.

Exchange 2007

Retrospect 7.6: A Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 operating in a two-node Windows Server 2008 Cluster environment can be backed up and restored.

  • Single Node Clusters are not supported by Retrospect 7.5 or 7.6.

  • Exchange 2007 LCR (Local Continuous Replication) is supported by Retrospect 7.6.123 and later.

  • Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) is supported in 7.6.123 and later. Retrospect can backup the active node in a CCR configuration but can not back up the passive node.

Microsoft SQL Server

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2003 and 2008 in two-node Windows Server 200x Cluster environment can be backed up and restored using 7.6.123 and later.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in two-node Windows Server 2000 Cluster environment can be backed up and restored.

Retrospect supports backing up and restoring a SQL server in a cluster environment with the following limitations:

  • The cluster can only have two nodes.

  • You can back up multiple SQL resource groups that are shared between the two nodes.

  • Nodes must be backed up and restored as Retrospect Clients. The Retrospect backup computer cannot be one of the nodes in the cluster.

  • You can only back up SQL data on the node that owns the SQL resource group. Likewise, you can only restore SQL data to the node that owns the SQL resource group.

  • Retrospect does not back up and restore cluster configuration information. In a disaster recovery scenario, you will have to manually recreate the cluster before restoring the SQL data with Retrospect.

If you want to make sure your SQL data gets backed up regardless of which node currently owns the SQL resource group, you must have a separate SQL license (and a client license) for each node. If you only want to back up your SQL data when a specific node owns the SQL resource group, you only need a SQL license (and a client license) for that node.
