title: Which versions of Linux and Unix does the client support? created_at: 2012.02.13 updated_at: 2023.07.11 category: System Requirements platforms: Windows, Mac ---
The following is a break down of which versions of Linux and Unix can be protected by Retrospect.
Linux client version 19 is available only as an x64 binary. We also updated the client to use a newer version of the glibc libraries. We support the following x64 distributions as long as glibc version 2.14 or later is installed. To find out what version of glibc is installed on your system run "ldd --version" through the terminal. If your system does not have glibc version 2.14 or later installed you can continue to use the 18.5.3 Linux client.
The following Linux distributions are supported on x64. The 18.5.3 client also supports the below distributions as long as glibc version 2.7 or later is installed.
Rocky Linux 9
CentOS 8
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
Fedora 38
Debian 12
Ubuntu Server 23.04
SUSE Enterprise Server 15
Auto-launch on certain distros requires extra steps. See our step-by-step guide.
Note that Retrospect 19 is compatible with Linux systems running Docker. Previous versions are not. If you are running an older version of the client you can use the following workaround. Edit the /etc/init.d/rcl or /etc/rc.d/init.d/rcl file, replace the two "$CLIENTDIR/retroclient &" lines with /bin/unshare -m /bin/sh -c "/bin/umount -a -t overlay; $CLIENTDIR/retroclient" & and save the file. Then stop and start the client.
