We're pleased to announce two updates to Retrospect's tape device support.

LTO-6

As we mentioned back in May, we support a wide variety of storage devices, media, and interfaces. Now, we can add to that list all LTO-6 tape devices, including units from HP, IBM, Quantum, Dell, and Tandberg. With these certifications, Retrospect officially supports every LTO tape drive and interface–SCSI, Fibre Channel, and SAS.

LTO-6 has a capacity of 2.5 TB native or 6.25 TB compressed, with a performance of 1.4 TB/Hr (compressed). It is certified for Retrospect for Mac 9.0.2 or Windows 7.7.620 and above.

See our device certification list for more details.

LTFS

LTFS is a new tape format that provides a file system interface to tape devices instead of a proprietary data format. With LTFS, you can copy files to tape, send the tape to a colleague, and they don't need proprietary software to read those files.

Retrospect 8.5 for Windows is certified for LTFS support on Quantum LTO-5 and HP LTO-6 using the Duplicate feature, and we're continuing to verify our LTFS support across all of our existing certified tape devices.
