Retrospect Virtual: How to Stop a Stuck Backup
Virtualization
If you have a backup that is stuck in your Retrospect Virtual Host Server and you are unable to stop or remove it from the console, please try the following:
Option 1
-
On your Windows server, go to
.C:\Users\(your username)\.obm\ipc\BackupSet\(backupsetID)
Note: If you don’t know the backupset ID, you can also sort this folder by date modified and it should be one of the most recent folders.
-
In this folder, delete the file called "running".
-
Open up the Windows services console (
) and restart the service “Retrospect Virtual Host Server Services”.services.msc
The stuck backup should be clear now.
Option 2
Alternatively, if this does not stop the stuck back, try the following:
-
On your Windows server, go to
.C:\Users\(your username)\.obm\ipc\BackupSet\(backupsetID)
Note: If you don’t know the backupset ID, you can also sort this folder by date modified and it should be one of the most recent folders.
-
In this folder, create a file called 'stop' without an extension.
-
Wait for four minutes.
-
After waiting, the stop file and running file should have both been deleted. Check the status of the backup to verify it stopped.
Option 3
The last option to stop a stuck backup is as follows:
-
Launch
and stop the "Retrospect Virtual Host Server Services".services.msc
-
Open the Windows Task Manager and kill all
processes.bschJW.exe
-

-

processes.bJW.exe
-

-
Empty the folder
.C:\Users\(your username)\.obm\ipc\ BackupSet\(backupsetID)
-
